FAQ

Questions & Answers

Everything you need to know about adventure yacht charters.

What is an adventure yacht charter?

An adventure yacht charter puts the activities first. Instead of choosing a yacht and then figuring out what to do, you start with what you want to experience - diving, kitesurfing, fishing, expedition cruising - and we match you with a yacht that has the right equipment, crew expertise, and operating area to make it happen.

How much does a yacht charter cost?

Charter rates vary widely depending on the yacht, destination, and season. Motor yachts typically start around $30,000 per week for smaller vessels and can exceed $500,000 for superyachts. Sailing yachts and catamarans often start lower. The charter fee covers the yacht and crew. Additional costs include fuel, food, beverages, and dockage (usually covered by an Advance Provisioning Allowance of 25-35% of the charter fee) plus local taxes and permits.

Do I need experience for adventure activities?

It depends on the activity. Many adventures are suitable for beginners - snorkelling, kayaking, and basic water sports require no prior experience. For activities like scuba diving, kitesurfing, or deep-sea fishing, some experience or certification may be required, though many yachts carry instructors or can arrange local guides. Expedition charters in remote areas may require a reasonable level of fitness. We will match you with the right experience level.

What equipment do charter yachts carry?

It varies enormously by yacht. A well-equipped adventure charter yacht might carry dive compressors and scuba gear, kayaks, paddleboards, kitesurfing equipment, fishing gear, tenders and jet skis, snorkelling gear, wakeboards, and more. We specifically look for yachts with the right toys and equipment for your chosen activities.

How far in advance should I book?

For popular destinations and peak seasons, 6-12 months ahead is recommended. Caribbean winter season (December to April) and Mediterranean summer (June to September) book up fastest. For expedition charters or specialist destinations like the Galapagos or Antarctica, 12-18 months is advisable. Last-minute options are sometimes available at reduced rates.

What is the best destination for diving?

The Maldives, Great Barrier Reef, Galapagos, and Southeast Asia (particularly Raja Ampat and Komodo) are world-class diving destinations. The Caribbean and BVI offer excellent reef and wreck diving in warmer, calmer conditions. Polynesia is outstanding for shark and manta encounters. The best choice depends on what marine life you want to see, your certification level, and when you want to travel.

Can I combine multiple activities on one charter?

Absolutely - this is what many of our clients do. A week in the Caribbean might include diving, fishing, and water sports. A Mediterranean charter can combine sailing, kayaking, and exploring coastal towns. We will build a multi-sport itinerary and find a yacht with the equipment and crew to support everything you want to do.

How many people can a charter yacht accommodate?

Charter yachts range from intimate 2-guest sailing yachts to large superyachts carrying 12 or more guests in separate cabins. Most popular charter yachts accommodate 6-10 guests. For larger groups, we can arrange multiple yachts sailing together or find the rare vessels with expanded guest capacity.

What is included in the charter fee?

The charter fee covers the yacht, captain, and crew. It typically does not include fuel, food and beverages, dockage fees, communications, or special excursions. These running expenses are covered by the Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), usually 25-35% of the charter fee, paid before the charter. Any unused APA is refunded after the trip.
